Aruna Vasudev, Founder & President Emeritus of NETPAC

It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Dr Aruna Vasudev, early on the morning of September 5th 2024.

Founder and President Emeritus of NETPAC, the Network for the Promotion of Asia Pacific Cinema and widely referred to as "the mother of Asian Cinema.”

She was prominent as an author, scholar, programmer, filmcritic, cinema activist and founder of Cinemaya: The Asian Film Quarterly and Cinefan Film Festival. She was also a painter.

Farewell Aruna, you will be deeply missed by the NETPAC family.

1. I entered the cinema through the theatre. I was an actor in our local theatre called Kanibadam, named after Tuhfa Fozilova. After working for five years, I decided to do a theatre director course. I graduated with honors and became a director. We successfully staged performances at international festivals.
